"People say, once you have had Char to eat, you will never want Salmon again – you will just have to find out for yourself."
Fishing up here is truly amazing! There are several crystal clear lakes close to the community that are home to Lake Trout and Land-Locked Char. There are also a number of larger and deeper lakes accessible by quads that are home to some impressive sized Lakers. In the ocean is the Arctic Char. People say that once you have had Char to eat, you will never want Salmon again – you will just have to find out for yourself.
All visitors must obtain a Northwest Territories Fishing Licence and an Inuvailuit Fishing License from the Renewable Resources Office for fishing in the Inuvailuit Settlement Area.
In terms of fishing lures, barbless spinners and spoons that are neon bright orange or green seem to work well. In terms of clothing, remember to bring clothing that you can layer as well as a waterproof and windproof jacket with a hood as the weather can change very quickly. Fishing on the ocean can be quite cool if not dressed appropriately.
Ulukhaktok (Holman) is truly a fisherman’s delight especially with 24 hours of daylight. One can fish all day, if you are up to it!
